    Washington DC-The White House

Washington DC-The White House. During our trip to DC, we stopped by to take a peak at the White House. Unfortunately you could not get very close, the area was fenced off, with several Capitol police keeping the sightseers under control. Sadly, the tours of the White House are not offered any longer to the general public.

    WASHINGTON DC-THE CAPITAL TEXTURIZED

WASHINGTON DC-THE CAPITAL TEXTURIZED. On a recent trip to Alexandria, Virginia we always visit our nation's capital. This time we went at dusk to photograph the Capital building. I change the look of this image by adding a couple grungy layers and a gradient layer.

  • WASHINGTON DC-THE OLD POST OFFICE

    WASHINGTON DC-THE OLD POST OFFICE

WASHINGTON DC-THE OLD POST OFFICE was one of the many interesting buildings we passed while walking the streets of DC. It is located at 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in DC. Construction on the building started in 1892 and was completed in 1899 and was used as the General Post Office for the city. The iconic building survived two threats of being demolished in the 1920’s and again in the 1970’ s to develop and complete the plan for the Federal Triangle. Opposition over the demolishing of this architectural masterpiece finally won when in 1973 the Old Post Office and Clock Tower was add to the National Register of Historic places. Plans to renovate the stucture replaced plans to have it demolished. It is the third tallest building in DC. The clock tower houses the “Bells of Congress”.

    WASHINGTON DC-MONUMENTS AND CHERRY BLOSSOMS

WASHINGTON DC-MONUMENTS AND CHERRY BLOSSOMS was taken during one of many trips to the DC area. Unfortunately, this year we were unable to visit because of the Covid 19 outbreak. Hopefully this pandemic will come to an end soon and we will be able to travel about like we use to.

WASHINGTON DC-WATERFALLS AT THE ROOSEVELT MEMORIAL

WASHINGTON DC-WATERFALLS AT THE ROOSEVELT MEMORIAL. Such a lovely place to visit while strolling through the DC area. The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial is located between the Thomas Jefferson Memorial and the Martin Luther King Memorial. The Memorial to FDR is made up of four outdoor galleries which represent his four terms in office. This is one of the many lovely water displays that can be seen while walking the path through the memorial. I chose to convert to black and white and use selective color to show the color of the cherry blossoms and leaves on the tree.
